One of the most famous and important markets in Mallorca

The Alcudia market is one of the most famous and important in Mallorca, making it one of the essential attractions when you come to the island on your holidays. Would you like to know more about the popular Alcudia market? At Hotel Ivory Playa, we can tell you everything about this remarkable place.

Discovering Alcúdia, a treasure of Mallorca

It should come as no surprise that Alcúdia has one of the most visited local craft markets in the whole island, because it is in one of the most attractive parts of Mallorca. Alcúdia is a town in the north of the island and is famous for its beautiful long Mediterranean beaches, such as Platja de Muro, as well as for its market.

But there is more to it than that. Alcúdia is also remarkable for being partly surrounded by medieval walls which are still intact, and which protect the historic centre of the city. This area has charming narrow streets and ancient buildings, such as the church of Saint James, and it is where the famous market is held on certain days.

Alcudia Market, a great day out in Mallorca

The market is held in Alcúdia, near the medieval walls, on Tuesdays and Sundays between 8 am and 1:30 pm, although it may stay open a little longer in high season. Visiting this market is a great way to discover the local food and culture of the island, as well as supporting the local economy and fair trade by buying the produce of nearby farms and vegetable gardens. At the same time, we can take advantage of our visit to see a few more of the details of this historic part of the city, take some memorable photos and try some delicious food with Mallorcan cake in one of the many cafés in the vicinity.

What can you buy in Alcudia Market?

There is a huge range of products on sale, from food items to local crafts and decoration. The first thing you notice, of course, is the selection of seasonal fruit and vegetables sourced from the best market gardens in Alcúdia and the neighbouring villages. On the other hand, the market is also a place to buy leather goods, footwear, clothes and jewellery, as well as locally hand-made souvenirs.

Other markets near Alcudia

There are other villages near Alcúdia and its famous market which have markets of their own that are well worth a visit. Take a look!

Muro

Muro is a small village very close to Alcúdia, and it also has a Sunday market at the same time in the morning. The best way to spend a Sunday is to stay in Alcúdia and get to its market early in the morning, before heading off to Muro to take a look at its market.

Can Picafort

There is also a remarkable market at Can Picafort, which is not far from Alcúdia. It is held in Calle Isaac Peral on Fridays and Saturdays from 8 am to 2 pm, which means it can easily be combined with the market of Alcudia in the same weekend, if that is what we want to do. The market here has a great range of food, flowers, clothes and footwear.

Santa Margalida

Santa Margalida is another of the villages near Alcudia, and it has its own market which is held on Tuesdays and Saturdays. It too can be combined easily with a visit to Alcudia Market in the same week, knowing as we do that we should not miss the latter. The market of Santa Margalida has stalls selling fruit, vegetables, flowers, plants, clothes and footwear. It is held in the main square of the village.
