Cycling in Alcúdia

Besides choosing Mallorca as their main destination for cycle tourism, many of those who come here for this purpose choose the region of Alcúdia as their base, and for very good reasons! Alcúdia, located in the north of the island, is one of the most popular areas of Mallorca. It is not just the beaches, the charming walled town centre and its local market that appeal, but the presence of some of the island’s best cycle routes. Whether you are a beginner, an amateur or a keen practitioner, these 3 cycle routes in Alcúdia are certainly unmissable, and we are sure that you are going to love them.

Alcúdia - S’Albufera Nature Park

One of the best-loved cycle routes in Alcúdia is the circular itinerary that starts in the middle of Alcúdia Beach and takes you to the famous nature park of S’Albufera before bringing you back to your starting point.

The route is moderately difficult, and we calculate that it will take approximately 3 hours to complete. It is certainly one of the most scenic routes in Alcúdia, with picturesque scenery and interesting flora and fauna to observe, especially considering that the Nature Park of S’Albufera is a wild, protected area that is worth a visit of any kind.

Imagine yourself cruising along among the natural wetlands in a nature park filled with plants that are taller than you are and an enormous variety of birds, fish, reptiles and mammals. The most common fish and animals include eels, frogs and the European pond turtle, with mammals such as bats and insects like the dragonflies and nocturnal butterflies.

These and many more species all thrive in some of the most beautiful scenery in the region of Alcúdia, and the park is also home to more than 303 bird species.

Platja de Muro - Betlem

This is the second of the most recommendable cycle routes in Alcúdia, and one you really should not miss out on. This is more suitable for casual cyclists, and the route takes us around most of beautiful Alcúdia bay, making it an excellent choice for enjoying the sea and cool breezes in summer.

The route begins at the famous Playa de Muro, heading east towards Artá and taking in the resorts of Can Picafort, Son Serra de Marina, Colonia de San Pere and finally, Betlem. The whole route covers some 66 km and is highly recommended if you are spending your holidays in or around Alcúdia.

Platja de Muro - Cala Mesquida

Finally, this is another route that also departs from Platja de Muro, one of the best beaches in the area near Alcúdia. We can do this route in one or two sections, so we are going to describe each of them.

First of all, the route takes us towards the east, exploring the natural areas of the Levante peninsula until we finally come to the beautiful Cala Mesquida, one of the most essential places to visit in Mallorca, especially in the summer. You can end the route here and still enjoy an impressive journey around the bay, ending your journey with a refreshing dip in the waters. If you are a little more experienced and feel up to a greater challenge, you can continue the route inland to the interior of Mallorca and the Oratorio of Sant Salvador. If we choose to add this second stage to our route, we will end up covering a total of 147 km. Be warned, though, that reaching the chapel itself will require a challenging climb of 4.5 km.
